Ghent-based band - earlier under the name Things to Come - who shot to the top of the Belgian scene through their victory in the 1998-edition of the Rock Rally (a "battle of the bands" contest, which they won before Fence and Chrome Yellow). The trademark Das Pop are (what else to expect with such a name) pop-melodies and a sound that's close to Blur and Britpop. As Bent van Looy, the singing and painting drummer, describes it "There's a need for pure pop in Belgium. Our music is without pretence, but has to be clever. This has to be clear both in the lyrics and the music.

Das Pop

we saw the sun for what she was
when august reached its peak
we bleached our hair to live beyond the dream
at night we spoke of what we'd seen
within these walls we swam
in white liquid radiation from the screen
danger lurks in fallens leafs
we thought this to be true
we spend the cold november in this room
the way you looked me in the eyes
like promising a child
we'll rent a million video's tonight
i was sure that one is one
it's fair to assume it's not
many things were said and done
it's all wrong
trials and tribulations
one day at a time
when christmas celebrations got me down
you meant to say it wasn't so
but never was it more
it was the bliss of looking
your eyes
two seas
one shore
i was sure that one is one
it's fair to assume it's not
many things were said and done
it's all wrong
and when you think it's time
that's when it's overdue
that's what it is to wait for the new
at night we spoke of what we'd seen
within these walls we swam
we bleached our hair
to live beyond the dream
i was sure that one is one
it's fair to assume it's not
many things were said and done
it's all wrong
